Marduk Band History
Marduk was formed in 1990 by guitarist Morgan Steinmeyer HÃkansson, who wanted to create the most blasphemous band in the world. He was joined by vocalist Andreas 'Dread' Axelsson, guitarist Magnus 'Devo' Andersson, bassist Rikard Kalm and drummer Joakim 'Af Gravf' GÃthberg. The band recorded their first EP, Fuck Me Jesus, in 1991, which caused controversy for its explicit cover art and anti-Christian lyrics. The EP was followed by their debut album, Dark Endless, in 1992, which showed a mix of black metal and death metal influences.
The band underwent several lineup changes over the years, with Morgan being the only constant member. Dread and Kalm left the band after the first album, and were replaced by B. War on bass and Af Gravf on vocals. Devo also left the band in 1994, and was replaced by Fredrik Andersson on drums. The new lineup released several albums in the mid-90s, such as Those of the Unlight, Opus Nocturne, Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered and Nightwing, which established Marduk as one of the leading black metal bands in Sweden and Europe.
In 1995, Af Gravf left the band and was replaced by Legion on vocals. The band continued to release albums with a more aggressive and fast-paced style, such as Panzer Division Marduk, La Grande Danse Macabre and World Funeral. However, in 2003, Legion and B. War left the band due to personal and musical differences. They were replaced by Mortuus on vocals and Devo on bass, who returned to the band after a decade. The new lineup released albums such as Plague Angel, Rom 5:12, Wormwood and Serpent Sermon, which explored more diverse and complex themes and sounds.
In 2013, Lars Broddesson left the band and was replaced by Simon on drums. The band released their latest album, Viktoria, in 2018, which received mixed reviews from critics and fans. The band has also faced several controversies over the years, such as being accused of racism, fascism and Nazism for their use of Nazi imagery and references in some of their songs and artworks. The band has denied these accusations and stated that they are not political or religious, but only interested in history and mythology. a474f39169
